Our Story

Our Story

For over 60 years, the Catholic Church of the Epiphany has served the Port Orange, FL Community, bringing the light and presence of Christ into our area. From its humble beginnings in 1960, celebrating Mass in the Palmetto Women's Club and Library on a collapsible picnic table with an altar cloth draped over, to our current church building, dedicated in 1999, the people of Epiphany parish have been a sign of faithfulness and service to God and those He loves.

About Our Capital Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions About our campaign and how to give (FAQ’s)

Q. Why do we need this campaign?

A.  Our current need is to preserve our campus for future generations. We wish to honor our past by renovating Fr. Smith Hall, named after our beloved former pastor. We are looking to provide a space that is dignified of the ministry we participate in; to have the physical capacity on campus to allow the ministry to grow; to facilitate a space that reflects the needs of each ministry; and to continue to honor the building that served as our original church. In this same spirit, we plan to update our existing administration building, allowing the resources our church offers to be more readily accessible. Lastly, we plan to enhance our way-making signage to provide all who enter our campus guidance and an open, warm welcome.

Q. What projects will this campaign support?

A. We plan to make the following improvements to our parish campus.

  1. Fr. Smith Hall - We intend to fully renovate Fr. Smith Hall into a more functional, multi-purpose space. This will include new windows and doors, and expanding and upgrading the kitchen, bathrooms, and technology. It will also allow us to add a handicap-accessible ramp and create landscaping that connects that area of property to the church.

  2. Administration/Church Office - We plan to create a newer, bigger entrance, and reconfigure and update the office space to be better utilized.

  3. Way-making Signage - We propose installing way-making signage to allow our campus to be more accessible for our community members and visitors.

Q. What is the goal of the campaign?

A.  Our goal is $2.6 million, with a stretch goal of $3.1 million.

Q. Why do we have a stretch goal?

A.  Our projected costs fall within a range. The higher estimate will allow us to renovate and reconfigure the church office building to be more accommodating to our parishioners. It will also allow us to install way-making signage around campus to make it more accessible. We need to raise a minimum of $2.6 million to make the needed renovations to Fr. Smith Hall; however, if we can raise $3.1 million, we will be able to complete the administration building renovations and secure campus signage.

Q. Will any portion be given to the diocese?

A.  No. All gifts made to the capital campaign will specifically fund this project.

Q.  Why is my participation important?

A.  We are asking every family to give to the campaign. Only you know your circumstances and can determine what level of giving is most appropriate for you and your family. Please be assured however, that your gift will make a significant difference, no matter what amount.

Q.  Can I just increase my offertory every week as my contribution to the campaign?

A.  The best way for us to know what funds you are designating to the campaign is for your family to fill out a pledge card or in-pew envelope and turn it in (either by the offertory basket or drop off at/mail to the Parish Office). There is a section on the pledge card and in-pew envelope to specify how you would like to be reminded of your commitment. You will receive reminders and a self-addressed envelope to your home address corresponding to what you elected on your pledge card/envelope (ex: monthly, quarterly, annually, etc.)

Q. How long is the pledge period?

A.  The pledge period is for three years. The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. will manage the pledges for our campaign. You will be able to choose the frequency of the payments on your pledge card and the method in which you wish to pay them.
